Seven Warrior athletes receive rings for 2017-18 national championship performances

Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµâ€™s athletic department started the 2018-19 year off on the right foot Tuesday evening as it presented rings to last season’s national champions in the department’s all-athlete meeting in the Schaefer Center.

Seven Warrior athletes were recognized for winning final events during last season’s men’s and women’s indoor and outdoor NAIA national championships. At the March 1-3 indoor championships in Pittsburg, Kansas, Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµâ€™s men’s and women’s teams finished second in the nation. At the May 24-26 outdoor championships in Gulf Shores, Alabama, Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµâ€™s men finished second in the nation while the ladies finished third.

Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµâ€™s indoor national champions included then-seniors Candella Guijarro (high jump) and Luke Runyan (1,000 meters); seniors Kejavon Moore (60 meters and 4×400 meter relay team) and Xavier Williams (4×400 meter relay team); junior Barthelemy Peter (4×400 meter relay team); and sophomore Brandon Smiley (4×400 meter relay team).

Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµâ€™s lone outdoor national champ was junior Cheyenne White; she won the triple jump and the long jump.
